Certification Scheme & Classes

EHEDG offers two main types of equipment certification:

  • Type EL for Equipment cleaned with Liquids

  • Type ED for Equipment Dry cleaned only

The criteria for certification include a design review according to the EHEDG guidelines as well as testing according to EHEDG test methods (where appropriate).

Effective 13 September 2017, the following decision was taken by the EHEDG Executive Committee on certification of metal to metal joints:
“Direct metal to metal joints should not be used other than welding, as metal to metal contact may harbor soil or liquids and could corrode. For equipment to be EHEDG certified, metal to metal joints are only permitted for Type EL Class II and Type ED Class I and II”.
