Enhancing Food Safety Through Education: EHEDG and University of Pretoria Forge Strategic Partnership
EHEDG South Africa has signed a landmark collaboration agreement with the Department of Consumer and Food Sciences at the University of Pretoria — a move set to boost hygienic engineering and food safety education across the continent.
This partnership, the first of its kind in Africa, aims to equip students and professionals with essential knowledge in hygienic design, giving them a competitive edge in the global food industry. Prof. Gyebi Duodu, Head of the Department, emphasized:
“The inclusion of hygienic design in our curriculum adds tangible value for students and contributes directly to enhancing food safety in the region.”
Mr. Peet Grobler, the Chair of the EHEDG Regional Section South Africa, highlighted the importance of regional capacity-building:
“We are thrilled to support EHEDG South Africa and the University of Pretoria in this important step towards expanding training and certification opportunities in Africa.”
With this collaboration, EHEDG continues to advance its global mission: to raise awareness and competence in hygienic engineering and design — and to promote food safety through targeted education and local empowerment.
