EHEDG Robotics Working Group Completes Field Study Tour in Western Turkey

EHEDG’s Robotics Working Group recently concluded a three-site visit across Western Turkey, gathering valuable real-world insights to inform the development of the upcoming EHEDG Guideline on Hygienic Robotics. This initiative represents a proactive step toward enhancing food safety!

The Working Group’s tour included in-depth visits to three key food production facilities, each offering unique perspectives on the integration of robotics in hygienic environments. The team explored Lezita’s high-capacity production hall, observing both manual and fully automated boxing and palletizing systems in operation. This visit offered important contrasts between traditional and modern approaches to end-of-line automation. At Gedik Piliç, the group conducted a comprehensive review of palletizing robot cells. The team mapped material flows, scrutinized hygiene-critical points, and identified opportunities for improvement in poultry processing environments. The longest stop on the tour at Pınar Et (İzmir) allowed for a detailed evaluation of multiple robotic systems across various meat-packing lines. Special attention was given to cleaning protocols, system integration, and on-site risk analysis to understand the operational realities and constraints faced by industry users.

EHEDG extends its heartfelt thanks to Prof. Dr. Onur Devres, Murat Merdin, Hubert Bocquet, Greg Harper, Nicolas Barril, Sinan Saldıran, Mehmet Ali Gokkaplan, and Vanessa Amani for their dedicated participation and valuable feedback throughout the visits.

We are also deeply grateful to our hosts for their generous hospitality and transparency, which made this tour a resounding success.
